Optimal Frequency Control for Virtual Synchronous Generator Based AC Microgrids via Adaptive Dynamic Programming

This paper proposes a novel virtual synchronous generator (VSG) controller for converters in AC microgrids (MGs). Such improves the control cost and DC-side energy requirements, while considering system non-linearity frequency support. First, dynamics of MG, which are analytically studied based on VSG with secondary controller, formulated as nonlinear state space representation. In this later, reciprocal inertia is modeled input. Correspondingly, function defined by comprehensively angular deviation, rate change (RoCoF), discount factor, can retain tradeoff between critical bounds required energy. Following, optimal regulation problem solved using an online adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) method, where single echo network (ESN) constructed to approximate input significantly reduce computational burden improve real-time computation.
